Route 66 – Day 7

September 29th was the final day of Route 66 and Bishop Michael Burrows began it with a visit to Baltinglass School in County Wicklow. A short sermon beside Baltinglass Church followed then it was on to Kiltegan School (where there were ‘angels’ dressed for Michaelmas) and Church straight away. Having already given short sermons on quotations from the Books of James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter and 1 John with the spotlight on the empowerment of womenTinahely School was the next stop on this rapid road tour. 2 John was the topic there.

Next up was Carnew School and then Carnew Church where the focus was on 3 John and the Book of Jude. Lydia Monds of Bishops’ Appeal also spoke here of the projects being supported in Ethiopia and the Congo around women’s literacy and the transformation that reading and writing skills can bring to women’s lives, enabling them to set up a soap-making enterprise, for example, and provide income for their families.

After lunch it was on to Killeshin Church where Revelation was the focus and Route 66 finished at Mayo Church with an Afterword and the General Thanksgiving.
