Keeping Adults Safe: training events update

All Church of Ireland clergy are reminded to book now for adult safeguarding training events which are continuing over the coming weeks.

As a Church we must be aware of and adhere to the relevant guidelines for Adult Safeguarding.  The Safeguarding Board has developed the Adult Safeguarding policy for the Church of Ireland which was ratified at General Synod. Further to this, the Safeguarding Board has organised a series of Keeping Adults Safe training events to cover the essential requirements for Adult Safeguarding and to introduce the policy.

Training events will be taking place on the following dates:

  • 11 June – Glasshouse Hotel, Sligo (for Raphoe, Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh, and Tuam, Killala and Achonry);
  • 14 June – RCB, Church Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin (for Dublin and Glendalough, and Meath and Kildare);
  • 19 June – Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny (for Cashel, Ferns and Ossory);
  • 20 June – Northridge House Conference Centre, Cork (for Cork, Cloyne and Ross); and
  • 21 June – Woodlands Hotel, Adare (for Limerick, Killaloe and Ardfert).

Two sessions are available at each venue on each day: 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm.  The schedule of events is outlined at the following link along with booking details: http://bit.ly/2KOi2Ba

All clergy are requested to attend one of the sessions as this training is required to outline what will be required and how the policy will seek to protect adults at risk.

If a parish has a paid employee who works with vulnerable adults, they can also attend.

If someone is unable to attend any of the sessions, then he or she must inform Dr Peter Hamill, Secretary to the Safeguarding Board, through the contact details below and a further session can be arranged later in the year.

Places at each venue are restricted to a maximum number and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

It is preferable that you attend an event in the jurisdiction where you are based. However, those near the border may only be able to attend event in the other jurisdiction. In this case, please note that the core material will be the same but the legislation will be different.

Dr Peter Hamill can be contacted on edunorth@ireland.anglican.org or 028/048 9082 8860.

It is the policy of the Church of Ireland to safeguard all adults sharing in its ministry and to protect them from all forms of harm and abuse.
