MOTHERS UNION NEWS

NEW PRESIDENT:

Our Diocesan President from 1st January 2007 will be Mrs. Phyllis Grothier.

Phyllis was enrolled in 1984 in Tullow Branch in Aghold Church having grown up in a M.U. household in Clonegal. She has been Enrolling Member and Secretary in Tullow and Young Families Diocesan Representative and Area Chairperson for Leighlin, and is trained as Parenting Facilitator for the Diocese. She has  always enjoyed M.U. and is looking forward to serving as Diocesan President and asks for your support and prayers for the future. She is married to George and they have five children .

We all wish Phyllis God’s blessing as she carries on the work of the M.U. with its theme for 2007 ‘Faith in Action’.

GENERAL   MEETING    2007:

The General Meeting of the Mothers Union will be held in Liverpool, which will be celebrating its 800th birthday in 2007.

At present, I am organising a trip to this famous city from 19th – 22nd June.    There will be a service on Wednesday 20th June at 7.30 p.m. in Liverpool Cathedral, and on Thursday 21st June the General Meeting will also be held in the Cathedral.    This Anglican Cathedral is the largest in the world and one of the great buildings of the 20th century.

We are hoping to fly from Dublin to Liverpool.   Early booking is essential, if we wish to avail of cheap flights.

If you would be interested in joining us, please contact me as soon as possible, (as this trip is proving very popular,) at Knockroe Lodge, New Ross.

DIOCESAN YOUNG FAMILIES CONFERENCE:

Another very successful Young Families Conference was held on 11th November in Leighlinbridge, with 23 delegates representing many branches and parishes throughout the Diocese attending. The day was made up of seven different women from the Diocese, speaking on seven different, very interesting subjects, with practical sessions on

  • Cookery with Hazel Sherlock,
  • Christmas floral arrangements with Evelyn Porter;

and other sessions on

  • Women’s health, Breast awareness with Hazel Graham-Sherwood,
  • The Chosen Family (adoption and Children of Russia charity) with Statia Stanley,
  • Women of Africa with Revd Isobel Jackson,
  • Relationships in the 21st century with Olive Thorpe,
  • MU Today and into the future with Linda Ward.

Everyone came away wanting t hear more, and some of the speakers have been booked for Branch meetings.

Sincere thanks to all the speakers, and to Hazel, Ena, Edie and Lilia for providing a delicious lunch, Phyllis for her help with the registration, and Frances for bringing the Literature stall.

The success of the day was due to the TEAM work, ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’ and from the feedback we got, everyone is looking forward to next year’s conference already! Some of those attending had never been to a M.U. event before, but went away wanting to know more and intending to look up their local branches.

Irene.
