From the Diocesan Children’s Office
Hello from Waterford!
SUMMER HOLIDAY CLUBS:
Weekend away with the teens
The weekend after Easter was an active one for the teenagers- not to mention the leaders and cooks who used up a considerable amount of energy too!
![]() |
45 teenagers from five different parishes turned up at Ovoca Manor, Co. Wicklow full of expectancy. The weekend was co-ordinated by the Revd Cliff Jeffers from Athy parish in preparation for this year’s holiday club’s around the parishes. It was a great success, many new friends were made- fun was had by all throughout, through worship times, training for clubs, and lots of sporting activities inside and out.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF CAMP – BY EMILY DANIELS FROM NEW ROSS
The G.F.S. camp was held in Kilkenny College from 13th -15th April. Camp opened with a get to know each other game and a treasure hunt. On Saturday we boarded the train to Waterford. A good brisk walk took us to see Waterford History Museum, Reginald’s Tower and a shopping spree. To round the trip off, we hit McDonalds. Saturday evening we played more games and had a concert. On Sunday a service was held in the McAdoo Hall. We had a group photo taken. Thank you to Mavis Thompson and the G.F.S. leaders who organised camp. We were well looked after by Kilkenny college canteen staff. The tuck shop kept us going. The camp was great fun and I made lots of new friends.

The Boys’ Brigade
South East Region
Reg. Co-ordinator: Richard P. Codd
The Annual Regional Service took place on Sunday 29th April, 2007 in Shillelagh Parish Church. All the companies in the region were well represented and it was a pleasure to have Bishop Michael with us. He gave us “food” for thought in his address. The music was provided by the lst Dublin B.B. Band under the direction of Mr. Peter O’Callaghan, to whom we are most grateful. Much thanks to the leaders, parents, churchwardens and parishioners for all their assistance in making the service special. The service was arranged by the Revd William Ritchie and Chaplain to 1st Littlewood. Much preparation went into it and we thank him most sincerely.
The President of the Boys Brigade in the Republic of Ireland, Mr. Alex Thackaberry and his wife Kitty were in attendance, as were Mr Philip Daley, National Director of the B.B. and Mr Leslie Buttimer, Ireland’s representative on the B.B. executive. It was good to have Mrs Georgina Rothwell with us as the service marked 30 years of the foundation of the Region and Georgina was the first regional co-ordinatior. The Tullow Branch of the G.F.S. was also in attendance and we thank leaders and girls for being with us. The attendance of Dean Gordon Wynne, The Revd Margaret Sykes and the Revd Michael Johnston was also appreciated. The collection of over €1000.00 was for Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
Our thanks to the teachers and Board of Management of Shillelagh N.S. for allowing us to use the school for refreshments on what was a glorious day.
Well done to the officers and boys.
