CHRISTIAN AID / BISHOPS APPEAL - Iraq

Christian Aid works closely with our own Bishops Appeal in helping to relieve the plight of many world-wide. The 11th to 17th May was observed as Christian Aid Week world-wide.

Following the war in Iraq, Christian Aid have been in a state of preparedness with partners on the ground for some time. Reception centres run by the Middle East Council of Churches, have been equipped with food, fuel, cooking equipment, medicines, tents and blankets. As electricity, water and sanitation installations are at risk, water shortages and the risk of disease will escalate. Christian Aid is funding a mobile water treatment unit, which will provide drinking water to between 150,000 - 200,000 people.

The situation is changing rapidly and Christian Aid along with all other Aid Agencies will ensure that those working on the ground will receive the support they need to deal with this crisis.
