MOTHERS UNION
Our Diocesan President writes:
Dear Fellow Members,
“Living for justice is different from charity. Charity may bring temporary relief to people in poverty but it still keeps rich and powerful people in control; we just give out aid as and when we choose. Justice means giving power back to the poor and oppressed. The choice to live for justice is in all our hands. Will you help make the world fair enough?” This is an excerpt from “Fair Enough?” a publication produced by the Faith and Policy Unit, providing information, checklists and reflections of trade and Climate Change.
Branches should, by now, have all received copies of “A Life of Faith in Action”. I hope that the “MU Journey Through Lent” chart is being used by members. It has lots of challenges from “Make a Change Monday” to “Special Sunday”.
“Humble Lifted High” is the theme for the Service prepared for the Feast of the Annunciation – a festival traditionally celebrated by Mothers Union. The Revd Anne Wallace has provided copies of this Service for each Branch.
A Fund was set up in Centenary year to help ordinands training for ministry. This fund continues today and is very much appreciated. I world ask Branches to continue to support the Mothers Union centenary Fund for Ordinands.
The Re-union Lunch continues to be a much enjoyed event – held this year on 6th February in the Ormonde Hotel, while the Diocesan Tour to Cavan and the surrounding areas will be eagerly awaited. Thank you to Margaret Dowse for organising both events. We look forward also to the Prayer Walk to be held at Ballymore, Ferns on 30th May at 2.30 p.m. further information from Bettie Wilkinson.
The Treasurer of any organisation has a very responsible position and Betty Rothwell has given outstanding service to Cashel and Ossory Mothers Union for the past number of years. Her attention to detail and care for the organization has been second to none and is very much appreciated. We send good wishes to Charlotte Daniels as she takes up office.
“When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed” Mother Teresa (Quotation from Fair Enough)
Phyllis.
