Recorded Music - March 2007

The aim of this section is to suggest hymns that are appropriate to the readings of the day for those who use recorded music in church. This list may, of course be used by anybody choosing music for worship. The numbers of the hymns appear with the number of the CD & MD on which they may be found, in brackets. The is the occasional hymn that is on CD, but not on MD! Do use the canticles; Anglican chant is lovely and with the excellent accompaniment provided you will find yourselves growing in confidence – this is also true of the hymns. Try new ones – a great way to do this is to play the new hymn as the voluntary for a couple of weeks – it will seep into the congregation’s heads – try it! The chosen tracks should be listened to prior to the Service as a verse or verses may be excluded in some hymns and to ensure that the tune chosen is known to the congregation.

Do use the voluntaries before and after the Service, they add atmosphere and, at the beginning of the Service, help to settle people down. Some hymns were not recorded.
