Clonmel town is situated 13 miles from Carrick-on-Suir and 23 miles from Waterford City, on the banks of the River Suir. The borough population is 15,215 (1996 census). The remains of several castles can be found in the town and surrounding country. Local attractions include the nearby Folk and Transport museum, the ruins of the 16th century Knockkelly Castle, and the famous Slievenamon mountain.
