Bagenalstown is an important and picturesque town on the River Barrow. Its founder William Bagenal, attempted to build a town of great architectural importance. His task was never completed, although the many fine streetscapes of his original plan delight the visitor. The Church is in the town centre adjacent to the school and there are many organisations such as the Boy's Brigade.
Nurney is a small village with an interesting pub, a church, and an ancient stone cross. The village stands on the junction of several roads and there are granite quarries for building in the vicinity. Nearby at Clonmelsh cemetery, Walt Disney's ancestors are buried.
