Education

Education is a priority in the Diocese and many initiatives are in place regarding primary and secondary education, confirmation preparation and marriage preparation courses. There are also occasional adult education courses dealing with elements of the Christian faith and many parishes have hosted courses such as Alpha or Emmaus.

Adult Education Officer

The role of the Education officer encompasses three parts:

Arranging courses as may be required for anyone in the united dioceses, including the programmes for reader training.

Overseeing the Continuing Education in Ministry for the clergy, using various events, courses and other means.

Mentoring and tutoring on an individual basis as might be required.

Currently there is activity under all these headings. The plan is that from September 2010 the work undertaken in the first two categories above will be validated and accredited on a formal academic basis through the Kilkenny Campus of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. There will be two programmes: firstly, a 2-year level 7 Certificate in Christian Studies to comprise the courses available to everyone ; secondly, a 3-year level 9 Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Formation for the Clergy.
