Education is a priority in the Diocese and many initiatives are in place regarding primary and seconday education, confirmation preparation and marriage preparation courses. There are also occasional adult education courses dealing with elements of the Christian faith and many parishes have hosted courses such as Alpha or Emmaus. Many parishes have Church of Ireland managed primary schools which cater up to the age of around 12 years. After primary school many pupils attend local secondary schools. A great proportion of Church of Ireland pupils opt to attend Church of Ireland managed secondary schools. The Diocese has the largest co educational boarding secondary school in Ireland. Kilkenny College is situated in Kilkenny City and has almost 1000 pupils, 600 of whom board.
A prayer for those in education Dear God, you see your children growing up in an unsteady and confusing world: Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than anything else. Help them to take failure not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
