Ferns is situated about 10 miles from Enniscorthy, on the Gorey to Enniscorthy N11 road. With a population of 900 people, Ferns was founded in the 6th Century. An ancient town, both royal and Episcopal, Ferns was once the capital of Leinster, when the Kings of that province had their chief seat here. Ferns Castle is a 12th century Norman building and is erected on the site of an ancient fortress of the Kings of Leinster. Other historic monuments include the Protestant Cathedral of Ferns and the Augustinian Monastery. Camolin is situated about 5 miles south of Gorey and has a population of around 300 people. This pretty village is well serviced with shops and has two Churches. Camolin Park House is situated on a wooded hill nearby and the surrounding countryside has many ancient relics and historical monuments.
