Kiltgan derives its name from Irish, which means St Tegan's oratory. St Tegan built the church on a site about a mile from the present village of Kiltegan, which is known locally now as Old Kiltegan, and a Cemetery can still be found there on Tony Jackson's land. There are no traces of the Church but an ancient Holy Water "stoup" did survive. The village really developed with the building of Humewood Castle.
The tiny village of Clonmore has a remarkable wealth of sites and items of antiquity. There's a triple bullaun stone - a large natural stone in situ with three hollows scooped out and used for pounding ingredients in prehistoric times. There is also an unfigured High Cross, early gravestones in the churchyard and the remains of a 13th century Castle.
