ARCHDEACON OF FERNS
The Revd Chris Long Rector of Enniscorthy Group of Parishes has been appointed Archdeacon of the Diocese of Ferns. He succeeds the Ven. Dermot Dunne who has been appointed the Dean of Christ Church cathedral Dublin.
Archbishop John Neill has appointed the Venerable Dermot
Dunne, archdeacon of Ferns as the new dean of Christ Church
to succeed Dean Harman who died in December. Archdeacon
Dunne served as dean’s vicar at the cathedral under Dean
John Paterson from 1999 to 2001.
The Venerable Dermot Dunne was born in 1959 and was educated
in the Pontifical University in Maynooth where he graduated with
diplomas in Philosophy in 1980 and Theology in 1983. He was
ordained a deacon in the Roman Catholic Church in 1983 and priest
in 1984, going on to serve in various capacities, and returning to
lay life in 1995. He was licensed as a Church of Ireland priest in
1998 after study in the Church of Ireland Theological College and
served as dean’s vicar at Christ Church. Since 2001 he has been
rector of the Crosspatrick Group of Parishes in the diocese of Ferns, part of the united dioceses of Cashel and Ossory. In 2007, he was appointed archdeacon of Ferns and warden of the Cashel and Ossory Guild of Lay Readers. He also holds a certificate in Psychotherapy from the Chiron Centre for Integrative Psychotherapy, London, and in 2004 graduated with a BA from Dublin City University.
Archdeacon Dunne is married to Celia (née Burl), who also trained as a psychotherapist in the Chiron Centre and now practices as a therapist in Tinahealy. He will be the thirty-fifth dean of Christ Church
since 1539, when the last Augustinian prior, Robert Paynswick was made dean under reforms initiated by King Henry VIII.
The Revd Roy Byrne has been appointed to the incumbency of Drumcondra, North Strand and St Barnabas. He will continue in Killeshin until the month of June. The Revd Roy Byrne was ordained in 1999, appointed to Killeshin in 2003 and was appointed Diocesan Liturgical Officer in 2004.
The Revd Canon Barbara Fryday has been appointed Warden of Readers and succeeds the Ven. Dermot Dunne.
The Revd Maria Jansson Rector of Wexford Union of Parsiehs has been appointed Diocesan Liturgical Officer and succeeds the Revd Roy Byrne.
