Archdeacon Hugh Henry James Gray 1921-2003
The death has occurred of the late Archdeacon Hugh Gray.
Hugh Gray was born in l921 in Cavan. He was ordained for the ministry
in l949 and first served as a curate in the Enniscorthy Group of Parishes,
Diocese of Ferns. He was appointed Rector of Fenagh & Myshall,
in the Diocese of Leighlin, in l951 and served there until being appointed
Rector of Clonenagh with Roskelton in l960. This particular parish
grouping remained until l980 when the Parishes of Offerlane, Borris-in-Ossory
and Seir Keiran were joined with Clonenagh & Roskelton. Hugh Gray
remained in the Clonenagh Group of Parishes until his retirement in
l996. He served as Archdeacon of Ossory & Leighlin from l983 until
l992. After his retirement he lived in Castletown, Co. Laois.
The late Archdeacon Gray was married to Isobel who died in l989, and
they had five children : Philip, Ian, Linda, Nigel and Raymond, and thirteen
grandchildren. His brother Leslie and sister Ruth are both still living.

today (4th November) will be given by the Right Revd. Noel V. Willoughby,
retired Bishop of
Cashel & Ossory.
