New Mothers Union Diocesan President

Revd Tom and Hazel SherlockThe Executive Committee for Mothers Union in Cashel & Ossory is pleased to announce that the new Mothers Union Diocesan President will be Hazel Sherlock from Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. Hazel will succeed Joan Dier as and from 1st January 2004. Hazel will be commissioned by the Right Revd Peter F. Barrett at the Diocesan Festival Service in May 2004.

Hazel is married to Tom, who is at present Rector of Castlecomer, in the Diocese of Ossory. They have four children, three girls and one boy, Jackie, Jennifer, Joy and Richard. The girl are all married and Hazel and Tom have four grandchildren. Their son Richard attends university in Dublin.

Our new president-elect has been a member of Mothers Union for over thirty years, originally joining when she lived in County Cork going on to serve as a Young Families Representative in that Diocese.

In l990 Tom was ordained to serve for the Auxiliary Ministry in the Diocese of Limerick and Hazel served as Area Treasurer and Social Concern Representative for that Diocese. In l995 Tom transferred to the Stipendiary Ministry and was appointed to the Templemore Group of Parishes in Cashel & Ossory Diocese. There Hazel acted as Branch Chairperson and in l999 was appointed MU Diocesan Secretary.

Tom and Hazel moved to Castlecomer in 2000 and Hazel has been very involved with the local MU Branch helping with the organisation for their 75th anniversary celebrations earlier this year.

Hazel’s interests include cookery, gardening, walking and Reading. She is a Director on the Board of Management of the Family Resource Centre in Clough, Co. Kilkenny.
