Open Air YOUTH SERVICE
Saturday 9th
July at 8pm
Open Air Youth Service in the grounds of the ancient Church of Aghowle,
Coolkenno, Tullow, Co. Carlow.
Preacher: The Reverend Arthur Ashe
If unfavourable weather we move to nearby St Michael's Church, Aghold.
Aghowle is an ancient monastic site. St Finian founded his first Monastic
Community in the first quarter of the 6th Century at Aghowle. He then
moved to Clonard, Co. Meath where he founded his best known monastery.
The monastic community remained in Aghowle for many years.
The Church ruin on the site was built in the early 12th century.
To the
north of the Church there is a plain granite cross. The Church was
used until 1716 when the present St Michael's Church, Aghold was built.
