THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF ST CANICE, KILKENNY

Each year the cathedral receives a large number of visitors, who include tourists, occasional worshippers, pilgrims, students and organised tours.

Visitor services resource these visitors and work to increase the cathedral's income from this source, principally through the visitor services desk and gift shop.

TEMPORARY TOURISM ASSISTANTS

We now wish to recruit two temporary tourism assistants for the June, July and August 2005 period (this may extend into September), to work under the direction of the administrator and oversee the provision and development of this aspect of the cathedral's life during its busiest season.

As a tourism assistant you will come into daily contact with visitors. Duties will include working at the visitor services desk and gift shop and conducting guided tours of the cathedral.

These positions would suit 3rd level students with an interest in tourism and heritage. The ability to speak languages in addition to English and Irish would also be preferable.

Applications by CV and covering letter should be sent to the address given below by Friday 29 April 2005 .

TEMPORARY TOWER ASSISTANTS

Beside the cathedral stands the 9th century round tower, monument to pre-Norman times. Visitors can climb the tower and be rewarded by an unsurpassable view of the city and surrounding countryside (weather permitting). The cathedral wishes to appoint temporary tower assistants for the June, July, August and early September 2005 period. Applicants must be over 16 years of age and be available on a weekly basis.

Applications by CV and covering letter should be sent to the address given below by Friday 29 April 2005 .
