THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF ST CANICE, KILKENNY
Each year the cathedral receives a large number of visitors,
who include tourists, occasional worshippers, pilgrims, students and organised
tours.
Visitor services resource these visitors and work to increase
the cathedral's income from this source, principally through the visitor services
desk and gift shop.
TEMPORARY TOURISM ASSISTANTS
We now wish to recruit two temporary tourism assistants for
the June, July and August 2005 period (this may extend into September), to
work under the direction of the administrator and oversee the provision and
development of this aspect of the cathedral's life during its busiest season.
As a tourism assistant you will come into daily contact with
visitors. Duties will include working at the visitor services desk and gift
shop and conducting guided tours of the cathedral.
These positions would suit 3rd level students with an interest
in tourism and heritage. The ability to speak languages in addition to English
and Irish would also be preferable.

TEMPORARY TOWER ASSISTANTS
Beside the cathedral stands the 9th century round tower, monument
to pre-Norman times. Visitors can climb the tower and be rewarded by an unsurpassable
view of the city and surrounding countryside (weather permitting). The cathedral
wishes to appoint temporary tower assistants for the June,
July, August and early September 2005 period. Applicants must be over 16 years
of age and be available on a weekly basis.
