DIOCESE OF CASHEL FERNS AND OSSORY

SUMMARY OF DIOCESAN COUNCIL MEETING

HELD TUESDAY 3rd FEBRUARY, 2015. THE HERITAGE COUNCIL, KILKENNY

The Meeting opened with prayer by the Chairperson, Bishop Michael Burrows who particularly welcomed those attending Council as new members on a very cold night.

Correspondence:

Letter from the RCB regarding a vacancy for a General Synod Officer and also regarding Irish Water which has been forwarded to all Parish Secretaries and Incumbents.

Letter re Information from the Commission on Episcopal Ministry and Structures giving results on Consultation with Diocesan Synods in 2014.

Information from Bishops’ Appeal giving details of collections for 2014:

Cashel & Ossory District:         Total        €30,667.71

Ferns District:                           Total:      €15,462.52

Finance: The up to date state of parish assessments had been sent to all council members.

All outstanding amounts, of which there were few, were being followed up.

The Diocesan Accountant gave information regarding Charity Regulation.

Green Issues in the Diocese: A ‘green’ conference to be held in the Diocese is being considered, and details as regards the annual ‘green’ competition will be available shortly.

Link Diocese with Sodor & Man: Link progressing very well and the Bishop reported that the Bishop of Sodor & Man and Mrs Paterson were in the Diocese recently and launched on behalf of Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise a CD which features hymns sung in Irish.   He also visited, Lismore, Cashel, Ferns and addressed pupils at Kilkenny College.

Ploughing Championships 2015: A committee was formed to progress matters for 2015. An application made to the Church of Ireland Priorities to assist in funding the 2015 venture.

Rural Deanery Reports: The Bishop advised all that the next round of visits in order to produce Rural Deanery Reports will commence early summer 2015.

Youth Work: In order to complete the promised three year cycle all parishes will be asked shortly if they wished to apply for funding towards appropriate projects in youth work.

Support for the Bishop’s Good Friday venture on the Stations of the Cross was sought.    All details in magazine and will be publicised in other areas shortly.

Tuesday 24th March in the Rhu Glen Hotel, Slieveriew

Thursday 21st May in Kilkenny

Wednesday 1st July in Old Leighlin

Friday 25th September in Bunclody

Monday 7th December in Kilkenny

(Diocesan Synod will take place on Wednesday 21st October – venue to be decided)
