Templemore is a town and parish with a population of 2,115 (1996 census) situated about 31 miles from Clonmel and 65 miles from Dublin City. The upper reaches of the River Suir, which are noted for good fishing are near the town. The Devil’s Bit Mountain (1,557 feet) is located a few miles to the north-west.
Thurles is a town and parish on the River Suir on a plain between the Slieveadagh Hills to the east and an extensive area of hilly country to the west. The town, which has a population of 6,603 (1996 census), is a well-known racing, hunting, fishing and sporting centre. Thurles was the scene of many medieval battles, and the ruins of seven castles lie nearby.
