The Bishop of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory, the Right Reverend Adrian Wilkinson, is pleased to announce that he has appointed two new members of the Chapter of St Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny.
The Revd Victor Fitzpatrick is to be the next Prebendary of Killamery. He has been rector of the Clonenagh Group of Parishes, centred on Mountrath, Co. Laois, since August 2018, having previously served as rector of the Kilcooley Union with Fertagh Group of Parishes since 2013. Victor is from Bayside, Co. Dublin, and studied Philosophy at the Milltown Institute, and Theology in St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth. Victor was ordained in 2004 and is a member of the General Synod. He has been Secretary of the Ossory and Leighlin Clerical Society since 2014 and serves on the Diocesan Board of Education.
The Revd Máirt Hanley is to be the next Prebendary of Aghour. He is a native of Ballyhack in Co Wexford. Having been ordained in 2003 and served in various parishes in Co Kerry, he returned to Cashel, Ferns and Ossory to become rector of Baltinglass in 2015. In 2018 Máirt was a founding member of the community of Brendan the Navigator (Cumann Breandán Naofa) and has a great interest in pilgrimage and church history. He is an enthusiastic musician and cook. Máirt is a member of the General Synod and serves on the Diocesan Council. Commenting on these new appointments, the Dean of Ossory, the Very Revd Stephen Farrell says ‘I am greatly looking forward to welcoming Máirt and Victor to the chapter of Saint Canice’s. Each brings a wealth of experience and gifts to their new rôle. Our new canons will be a wonderful asset to the cathedral in its mission to serve the city and the diocese.’ Both clergy will also continue to serve as incumbents in their respective parishes.
