Anne Slator, 76, well-known member of Gorey Group of Parishes, did the Women’s Mini-Marathon in Dublin on Monday, 5th June, in aid of parish funds.
It was her 21st women’s mini-marathon and her 15th walking to raise money for her own parish.
Her goal was to raise €1000 but she has exceeded that and when final figures are in from her helpers she is hoping to have reached her annual figure of €2000.
Anne set off Dublin at 11 a.m. with three friends who were walking for other charities and the walk began at 2 p.m.
“We were lucky that there wasn’t as much rain in Dublin as there was at home. It only rained on us for the last half hour. Over 30,000 women took part, some walking and a lot of runners too.”
The 10 km walk took Anne two hours but she felt ready for it.
“I survived it grand,” she said. “I’d walk half an hour every day and every Saturday morning a group of us walks 5 km from Gorey so I’d be used to walking. On the May bank holiday Monday I’d walked the distance, 10 km, from Gorey’s main street to Tinnock Bridge (6 miles or 10 km) so I knew I could do it.”
Busy with the event, Anne didn’t have time for photographs of her wearing the Christ Church t-shirt, unfortunately.
Talking to her the morning after, churchwarden Anne was down town on parish business before heading off to do Meals on Wheels, one of her many community involvements. Well done, Anne!
