Canon Ian Coulter Installed as Canon Treasurer of Saint Canice’s Cathedral
The Rev Canon Ian Coulter was installed as Canon Treasurer of Saint Canice’s Cathedral, Kilkenny, at a Service of Choral Evensong on Sunday, 25th May.
Canon Coulter’s appointment follows the retirement of Canon Brian O’Rourke from the Chapter. The new Canon Treasurer was appointed by Bishop Adrian Wilkinson in January 2025. Prior to this role, Canon Coulter had been the Prebendary of Blackrath on the Cathedral Chapter since 2022.
Canon Coulter was joined at the service by his family, a large number of parishioners from the Templemore Union, and by friends and colleagues from across the Diocese.
Welcoming worshippers to the cathedral, the Dean, the Very Reverend Stephen Farrell, spoke of the historic role of a Canon Treasurer and welcomed Ian to this new position within the Chapter.
In his sermon, Canon Coulter who was ordained in the cathedral a quarter century previously said it was Psalm 127, the psalm at the installation Evensong, that had gripped him all those years before and set him on the path to ordination.
He spoke of his joy at being installed into his new office and how he looked forward to working with the Dean and Chapter colleagues to continue the cathedral’s ministry of inclusion and welcome.
The service was sung by Saint Canice’s Cathedral Choir. Following Evensong, fellowship continued over refreshments provided by Canon Coulter’s family.
Here ends the report.
