Processional cross dedicated in memory of the Very Reverend David Earl and his wife Christine.

A large congregation gathered today for the Palm Sunday service in Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford. At the beginning of the liturgy the Bishop dedicated a new processional cross in memory of Very Rev David Earl and his wife Christine. Very Rev David Earl was Dean of Ferns from 1979 to 1994, and on retirement David and Christine lived happily in Tramore. The lessons were read by Ruth Jephson, Rachel Reeves and Katie Earl, grandchildren of David and Christine.
The Gospel was read in parts, the young people who were on the Diocesan Confirmation Retreat playing the part of the crowd. The choir sang the unison communion setting written by Eric Sweeney. The anthem during communion was Lord, be thy word my rule, by John Wood.
The new chapter crucifer was Johnson Tope Ademumi. Refreshments afterwards were provided by Hazel Hemmingway and Sheila Power.
