Today was a big day in the Diocese for our primary school children.
End-of-year Children’s Choral Festivals took place in several venues and art competition prizes were also given out.
The winner of the Junior Bishop’s Medal 2019 Award was also announced – a 6th class pupil in St Iberius School, Wexford who was presented with his prize in Ferns this morning.
Full details and names of winners will be available in the July issue of the Diocesan Magazine. In the meantime here is the artwork that won the overall prize and first prize in each class. Congratulations to everyone. This is what the judges had to say.
“We were impressed with the thought and effort put into the winning entries and the fact that the winners made use of the whole page, filling it with colour and detail. Those who used paint as a medium really stood out due to the vibrancy
of colour and the fact that it is more difficult to produce fine details in paint. There was also a very good and wide interpretation of the theme which gave the children the opportunity to be imaginative in their interpretation of it.”
Schools and classes that winners were from:
Overall winner – Benson Memorial Prize – Abbeyleix South National School (featured image)
The winner of the literary section (a poem called God’s Creation) – is a pupil in Rathdowney National School.
Again, congratulations to all the prizewinners and everyone who entered this annual competition.
