Hilda Bailey has been recently elected as the president of the Girls Friendly Society in Cashel, Ferns, and Ossory Diocese. With over 20 years of experience, Hilda has been a dedicated leader in the Abbeyleix/Killermogh branch. She first joined the GFS as a young girl in the Rathdowney branch, where her mother was also a leader. Hilda is married to Albert and has three children Alison, Andrew, and John. Alison, who was a GFS Junior Delegate in 2020, is one of her children. Hilda served as Diocesan Secretary previously and is an All Ireland trained leader.  She has contributed to many Diocesan and Central committees over the last 20 years.

Clare Halligan has been elected Secretary of the Girls Friendly Society for the Diocese of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory.  Clare has been a GFS leader in the Tullow branch since 2017. She sits on the board of management for St Columba’s N.S  Tullow and is also involved in the Parent Teacher Association.  Clare is married to Paddy and has three children: Thomas, Isabelle and Charlotte. Both Isabelle and Charlotte are keen members of GFS in Tullow.  Clare works for the Irish Wheelchair Association.

On receiving news of these appointments, Bishop Wilkinson says ‘I congratulate both Hilda Bailey and Clare Halligan on being elected to these important positions in the GFS. I know that their commitment is much appreciated. The GFS is a wonderful organisation which makes a very positive contribution working with young people in the Diocese. I have been in contact with the GFS chaplain the Revd Edna Wakely regarding the Diocesan service which will be held in St Canice’s Cathedral on 25th May. I look forward to meeting many of the members and leaders at it.’
